Your Dream Life Isn’t As Risky As It Seems

As I stand in four inches of sewage water in my house for the sixth time and my insurance company claims that I am nearly uninsurable, I can’t help but wonder why I’m in this position. I graduated college with an expensive degree, landed a comfortable teaching job with long-term prospects, got married, and started a family. My wife and I bought a house that would be big enough to host our family gatherings and grow our little family. We went with the comfy route.
Any house will come with upkeep and unexpected issues, but somehow we found the one that fights back. It’s been so bad that my wife’s coworkers call our house “Hill House,” like the Netflix show, The Haunting of Hill House. The only thing we haven’t experienced is the ghosts… yet.
